This project uses all of the information we've learned from Chapter 6, 7, and 8. We will be looking at the average orbital speeds of different planets, and using that information to create tables, write equations, and make graphs.

Benchmark Testing
This week in math class, students will be taking the benchmark tests for Course 1 Math. We only meet for class twice this week due to the Memorial Day holiday and our MS field trip at the end of the week.

Chapter 10 - Volume and Surface Area
This week in math class, we are starting and finishing the material from Chapter 10. Students will learn all about the surface area and volume of rectangular and triangular prisms, as well as the surface area of pyramids. There will be no chapter test for this material, but students will be assessed by a unit project, as well as some questions from the benchmark that they will take at the end of the year.

Starting Geometry Unit
This week, we will be starting the unit on geometry. This is the last unit that we will do this year. Chapter 9 talks all about area of figures, and we will learn formulas for areas of shapes including parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids.

This week, we will be starting Chapter 5 which starts the unit on Expressions and Equations. We also will be starting work with MobyMax, an online website that helps students find their math strengths and weaknesses in order to help fill in any gaps they may have in their math foundation.

Later this week, we will also be taking the mid-year benchmark test; this is the same test they took at the beginning of the year, which helped us teachers see where the students were in the mathematical learning journey. Mrs. Cline and I want to see how much these 6th graders have learned since they began the year. We will take the same test again at the end of the year to see their progress throughout the entire year.

Continuing Work With Fractions
This week, we are continuing our work with fractions. More specifically, we will learn how to do division when fractions are involved. We will finish up material from this chapter at the end of this week, and then we will review Monday for our Chapter Test which will be on Tuesday, 12/6.

Chapter 1 Test and Dinosaur Measurement Project
This week in Math 6 Course 1, we will be having our first Chapter Test on Chapter 1. We will be reviewing in class on Tuesday and taking the test on Wednesday. We will also be reviewing by finishing, in class, a Dinosaur Measurement Project which helps to review how to use ratios and scaling to compare a dinosaur model to a real dinosaur.

We will be starting Chapter 2 on Thursday.

Chapter 1 - Ratios and Rates
Chapter 1 is all about Ratios and Rates. We have already learned how to find the Least Common Multiple and the Greatest Common Factor, and Unit Rates. We will continue our study of Ratios and Rates by using Ratio Tables and Graphing Ratio Tables, and find Equivalent Ratios.

Today, each student received a syllabus and we decided as a class what we expect of each other during math class. We will begin work in our book tomorrow with Chapter 1, which is all about Ratios and Rates.
