I have loved math ever since I can remember. I started out in college as an Aerospace Engineering major, then after realizing that I wanted to work as a teacher I switched to Secondary Math Education. I graduated from Penn State in 2010 with a BS in Secondary Math Education.

I have lived in quite a few parts of Pennsylvania in my life, and also lived in Ohio for a couple of years. After graduating from Penn State, I settled in the State College area. I've subbed in the nearby school districts of State College, Bellefonte, and Penns Valley as well as at Our Lady of Victory and Saint Joseph's Catholic Schools.

This will be my first year teaching at Young Scholars and I am excited to be a part of the middle school faculty and the YSCP community!

Interesting Math Links

Mathematics illuminates the patterns that abound in our world. The National Museum of Mathematics strives to enhance public understanding and perception of mathematics. Its dynamic exhibits and programs stimulate inquiry, spark curiosity, and reveal the wonders of mathematics. The Museum’s activities lead a broad and diverse audience to understand the evolving, creative, human, and aesthetic nature of mathematics.

Ancient Geometry

Back before computers and other recent technology, ancient geometers would construct geometric shapes using just a straight edge and compass. If you follow the link below, you will find a website that challenges user to use similar constraints to solve the geometry puzzles that those ancient mathematicians figured out (without help from the internet!).

You start with two points, and from there can create lines and circles. There are 40 points that you can earn, some from just creating a shape and some from creating that shape in a certain place or in a certain amount of moves.

Good Luck!
